City & Firefighters Union Likely To Approve Contract

After resolving a few remaining hurdles, it finally appears as though  the city of Cumberland and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1715 will both approve a new contract as early as next week. The two sides met Thursday with both saying some minor  technical issues that derailed a recent tentative agreement were addressed and now the Local 1715 membership is ready to vote on  the acceptance of the contract Tuesday.  For the deal to become official, it must be approved by union membership and the Mayor and City Council. City Administrator Jeff Rhodes outlined the primary points of contention that led to the lengthy negotiations….
