Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim and the City Council held a budget work session this morning, and seemingly agreed to a framework that includes a 9.75% increase in the real estate tax rate. No one on the council was happy with the prospect of raising taxes. Councilman Eugene Frazier said he agreed there needs to be an increase, but thought it was too high at nearly 10 percent. The group needs to advertise for a Constant Yield hearing advising the public that it plans on increasing tax revenues in the coming year, and will have to take budgetary action in public session before the new fiscal year arrives on July 1st.
