A Cumberland man was being held late Saturday on $200,000 bond after allegedly stabbing a man in the throat on Elm Street, authorities said.

Phillip Glenn Potter, 49, was charged with first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, according to a release from the C3I Unit.

Investigators interviewed several witnesses who were in the home at the time of the incident, which led to the identity of the suspect.

A search warrant was obtained for the residence and several items of evidence were recovered, including what police believe to be the knife used in the incident.

The scene was processed by an evidence collection technician with the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division.
