City Man Charged With Assault

On Friday  at 4:38 pm, Cumberland City Police Officers responded to the 300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue for an Assault.  Investigation into this matter revealed that Joshua Baker, age 36 of Cumberland, initiated an argument with the victim which led to a physical confrontation.  Baker allegedly swung a knife in an aggressive manner towards the victim.  The knife wedged into a wall where Baker then punched the victim in the face and tackled him to the ground.  Officers arrived and placed Baker under arrest.  He was transported to the Cumberland City Police Department where he was processed, served and taken to the Allegany County District Court Commissioner’s Office for a bond review.  He was held on a $6,500.00 dollar bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.  The victim did not require medical attention.

CHARGES:  Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment, Disorderly Conduct.

On Saturday the Cumberland Police Dept served a criminal summons on 33 year old Bradley Spangler of Cumberland. The summons charged Spangler with one count of Second Degree Assault, Disorderly Conduct, and DOP. The summons was a result of an investigation taken by the Cumberland Police Department on 12/09/11 in which Officers responded to the 100blk of Washington Street for a report of an assault. Interviews were conducted with the victim who stated that an argument ensued over a text message. The argument escalated and the victim was then struck in the face and a cell phone belonging to the victim was damaged.  The victim had injuries consistent with the events of the incident that did not require medical attention. Contact was attempted to be made with Spangler on 12/09/11 but attempts were unsuccessful. The Officer filed charges through the District Court of Maryland which led to the summons being issued.
