City man charged with child abuse

On Tuesday,a deputy from the Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for a possible child abuse. When the deputy arrived, he was advised by Emergency Room staff a 2 month old infant was brought to the hospital suffering from seizures.         The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) responded to the hospital to assist in the investigation. Due to the extent of the infant's medical condition, the infant was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

 

        An investigation was initiated and it was determined the infant had been physically abused. The infant suffered numerous physical injuries. Numerous interviews were conducted and evidence revealed the infant was in the care of Robert Gene Gray when the injuries occurred.

 

        On Friday, 7/7/17, an arrest warrant was issued for Robert Gray. Gray was taken into custody without incident at his residence.

 

        Robert Gray was charged with Severe Physical Child Abuse First Degree, First Degree Assault and Second Degree Assault.

 

       Gray was taken before the District Court Commissioner and held without bond. 

 

       The investigation is continuing by C3I and the Allegany County Sheriff's Office.
