City Man Facing Arson Charges

On Saturday,  the Cumberland Police Department arrested James K. Flohr Jr. The arrest stemmed from an investigation that revealed Flohr assaulted his girlfriend and attempted to set her bed on fire.  The victim was interviewed and the following information was obtained.  The victim stated she and Flohr had an argument over money and cigarettes.  During the argument Flohr became more aggressive and physically abusive.  The victim stated Flohr punched her in the back and stole her cell phone.  She stated she laid down in order to go to sleep and Flohr then took out his lighter and lit the corner of the mattress on fire.  She stated Flohr made several statements about killing her.  The victim attempted to get a flashlight and exit the residence.  Flohr then blocked her exit, punched her in the arm and took the flashlight from her. She was able to break free and exit the residence.  Officers responded to the Altamont Terrace residence and observed smoke coming from the building.  The Cumberland Fire Department responded and cleared the residence.  It was also learned during the investigation that Flohr had no permission to be inside the Altamont Terrace residence.  Flohr was contacted and arrested at that time.  The victim was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center and treated for her injuries.  Flohr was transported to the Cumberland Police Department.  He was taken before a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on $250,000 bond.
