City Officials Sworn In

January 8th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

It was standing room only in Cumberland’s City Hall rotunda as Ray Morriss was sworn in as the city’s new mayor in ceremonies Monday afternoon. Morriss, who defeated incumbent Brian Grim in November, was sworn in by County Clerk Dawne Lindsey alongside council members Richard “Rock” Cioni and Seth Bernard who were both re-elected to office.  Allegany County Circuit Court Judge Timothy Finan served as Master of Ceremonies. Addressing a large crowd of friends, family, supporters and other elected officials- Morriss said he believes the proper team is now in place to move Cumberland forward…

One bit of news on the current city council vacancy- WCBC has learned that one of the 16 applicants who had sent a letter interest has since withdrawn. That leaves a total of 15 candidates to be considered for the seat vacated by Dave Caporale with interviews taking place this week. The announcement of the appointment is expected at the council’s January 15th meeting.
