City Police Arrest Woman Attempting to Cash Stolen Checks

December 29th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

On Wednesday at 1:30 pm, officers responded to a bank in the 100 block of Baltimore Street for a fraud complaint.  Upon arrival officers made contact with employees who directed them to Natasha Carbaugh, age 28, Cumberland, MD. They advised that Carbaugh had came into the bank and attempted to cash a possible stolen check. Officers investigating the incident then contacted the owner of the checks.  Officers learned that in November 2016, the victim had reported to the Cumberland Police Department that his vehicle had been broken into and checks were stolen.  Officers also learned that the owner of the checks had never previously written a check to Carbaugh. At this time Carbaugh was placed under arrest and taken to the Cumberland Police Department.  Once at the police department she was processed and charged with Theft under $100, Forgery of Private Documents, Attempted Theft under $1000, Issue False Document, and Fraud and Identity Theft under $1000.  Carbaugh was later taken to District Court for her Initial Appearance and held at the Allegany Detention Center on $10,000 Bond.
