City Police Make Assault Arrest & Serves Citation For Shoplifting Complaint

On December 4, 2018 Officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to 200 Wills Creek Avenue for an assault.  Upon the officer’s arrival, they made contact with Frederick Baker. Baker informed the officers that he was doing some outside work when a male subject confronted him about blowing leaves onto his property. An argument took place between Baker and the male subject.  During the argument, Baker told officers that he was assaulted by the male. Baker told officers he assaulted the male in self defense. After speaking with Baker, officers contacted the male subject involved in the incident. Officers learned that the male drove to Bakers location and observed him blowing leaves onto his property.  The male subject confronted Baker from his vehicle advising him to stop. Baker confronted the male subject and told him to exit his vehicle. After exiting the vehicle, Baker punched the male in the face, breaking his glasses. Baker entered the male subject’s vehicle removing the keys from the ignition. Baker took the keys from the vehicle and threw them under the vehicle.  Baker grabbed the male subject in the face, bit his hands and threatened to retrieve a gun and shoot the male. Officers were able to observe injuries on the victim that were consistent with his side of the story. As a result of this incident, Baker was arrested at the scene and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing. Baker was processed, served and taken before the District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance.  Baker was held without bond in the Allegany County Detention Center.

 

Arrested: Frederick Laing Jacob Baker                 Age: 60 of Cumberland, MD

Charges: Robbery, 2nd Degree Assault, Theft Less than $100 and Destruction of Property.

 

Theft Arrest

On December 4, 2018 Officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to the Dollar General located at 1050 West Industrial Blvd. Suite #6 for a shoplifting complaint.  Upon the officer arrival they made contact with the store manager. Information was received that, Cassandra Crabtree had stolen toys and other merchandise from the store. Crabtree had paid for several items, however had concealed the toys and left without paying for them.  Crabtree admitted to stealing the items. Crabtree was issued a criminal citation and released from the scene.

 

Arrested: Cassandra Lee Crabtree                                           Age: 30 of Oldtown, Maryland

Charge: Theft Less than $100.
