City Police Make Assault & Burglary Arrests

On May 14, 2017, Officers responded to First St. for a domestic assault complaint.  Upon arrival, contact was made with the complainant who had found signs of an assault on a juvenile victim.  The investigation revealed that the juvenile had been in the care and custody of Curtis Hamilton, age 27, of Cumberland. The investigating officers were able to establish through their investigation that Hamilton had assaulted the juvenile.  Officers then placed Hamilton under arrest and he was charged with Assault 2nd degree, Child Abuse-2nd degree: Custodian. He was later taken to District Court for his Initial Appearance and held without bond.

 

Burglary/ Assault

On May 14, 2017, Officers responded to the 300 block of Bedford St. for an assault and disturbance. Upon arrival officers contacted the victim and began investigating the incident.  Officers learned that the victim was in her home when she found Marley Powell, age 23, Cumberland, MD in her kitchen.  She confronted Powell and tried to get him to leave; however, he refused and began assaulting her and destroying property. The incident then continued outside where the victim was able to flag down a citizen to call the police. Powell was located on Park St. where he was placed under arrest.  Powell was then taken to the Cumberland Police Department and charged with Assault 2nd degree, 4th degree Burglary, 3rd degree Burglary, Trespassing, and Disorderly Conduct. Powell was then taken to District Court for his Initial Appearance and held without bond.
