Trespassing
On Wednesday at 11:12pm Officers with the Cumberland Police Department responded to the George Washington’s Headquarters Gazebo in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival Officers contacted 33 year old Melony Melvin and 37 year old Andrew Seifarth both of Cumberland. Both subjects had been warned by Officers several hours earlier to not create any further disturbances and that the gazebo was closed to the public at 11:00pm. At this time Officers issued Melvin and Seifarth a Maryland Criminal Citation for trespassing and released them from the scene pending trial in District Court.
Domestic Assault
On Wednesday at 8:34pm Officers with the Cumberland Police Deparment responded to a residence in the first block of E. Roberts St in reference to an assault. Upon arrival Officers contacted the victim and a witness who advised that an argument ensued which turned physical. The victim advised that they were punched in the face several times with a closed fist and at some point during the altercation, they were struck with a miniature wooden baseball bat. Officers observed injuries to the victims face consistent with their account of the incident. The victim was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were non life threatening. As a result Officers placed 48 year old Brian Garletts of Cumberland under arrest and transported him to the Cumberland Police Dept where he was charged with one count of First and Second Degree Assault and Reckless Endangerment. Garletts was taken for an initial appearance in District Court where he was held on a $10,000 bond.
Theft
On Wednesday, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 200blk of Union St in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival Officers contacted the victim who advised that sometime during the day person(s) unknown removed a black in color NEXT bicycle with orange spray paint and white electrical tape on it. There are no suspects or witnesses at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cumberland Police Dept at 301-777-1600.
