Firearms Arrest:
On Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at approximately 7:00 AM Cumberland Police Officers served a search and seizure warrant at a Pine Avenue residence. The search warrant was issued as a result of an investigation that began in late April 2016. The incident began from a theft investigation in which Officers gained information that the suspect, Floyd Kitzmiller, was illegally in possession of a firearm. Information was gained from the Maryland Gun Center that Kitzmiller was prohibited from obtaining or possessing a firearm due to the fact he was convicted of a felony charge of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance in 1989. As a result of the search, Floyd Kitzmiller was found to be in possession of a firearm and was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Cumberland Police Department. He was charged, processed and taken to the Allegany County District Court Commissioner’s Office where he was released on his personal recognizance.

Charges: Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Illegal possession of a regulated firearm, Illegal possession of a firearm after a CDS conviction and Possession of illegal ammunition.
Assault Arrest:
On May 31, 2016 at approximately 11:55 PM Cumberland Police Officers responded to a Pear Street address for a report of an assault. Officers responded and contacted the male victim. He stated he and Shawna Atwood were out earlier in the evening and became involved in an argument. The victim stated they were walking home and the argument continued. Atwood then assaulted the victim in the face. Atwood then left the area. The victim had facial injuries but refused medical treatment. Atwood was located a short distance away and was placed under arrest. She was charged, processed and taken to the Allegany County District Court Commissioner’s Office and released pending trial in District Court.
