City Police Respond To Assault & Armed Robbery

On July 13, 2016 Cumberland City Police served a criminal summons on Paul William Thomas Goetz, age 37 of Cumberland, Maryland.  The summons was issued after a private citizen applied for charges at District Court.  Goetz was served with the summons and released pending his trial date in District Court.

Charges: 2nd Degree Assault and Disturbing the Peace.

 

Armed Robbery

On July 14, 2016 at 1:33 am, officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to the intersection of Arch Street and Industrial Blvd. for a reported armed robbery.  Upon the officers arrival they contacted a male victim.  During an investigation into the matter officers learned from the victim that he was walking on the west bound side of Industrial Blvd. when he observed a black minivan flashing its lights in his direction.  When he looked toward the van, a black male confronted him on the sidewalk with a handgun.  The victim told officers that the gun was placed against his head and the suspect demanded his book bag that he was carrying.  The victim complied with the suspects orders and handed over the bag.  The suspect ran from the scene and entered into the black van which left the area.  Officers canvassed the area but did not locate the suspect or suspect vehicle.  The Cumberland City Police is asking the public for assistance with this case.  The victim described the suspect as a black male, late 20’s early 30’s approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, no facial hair, average build wearing a red shirt.  Anyone with information regarding the suspect or the suspect vehicle is asked to contact the Cumberland City Police at 301-777-1600
