City Receives Proposal for Former HRDC Building

September 3rd, 2014 by WCBC Radio

After searching for several years for a buyer for the former HRDC building at 19 Frederick Street, the Cumberland Mayor and City Council received a firm proposal from a businessman and property owner in the city with years of experience in the real estate business. Phillip Smith says the plan is to call the property Liberty Trail Inn with the goal being to be open for the coming spring season. After a total restoration and rehabilitation, there will be at least 18 rooms; one two-room suite, 3 suites, and 14 regular rooms. Cyclists will be able to store their equipment inside the building for complete security. The two story courtroom on the second level will be totally restored and will be a special events center for the area. Smith said he believes a downtown inn geared toward cyclists seems like a perfect fit.
