City To Award Contract For Demolition Of Former Memorial Hospital

September 24th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Cumberland Mayor and City Council tonight will award the contract to demolish the former Memorial Hospital to the low bidder- Ritter & Paratore Contracting, based in Utica, N.Y.  17 contractor bids were received for the project earlier this month, with Ritter and Paratore’s the lowest at  $1,467,000. The high bid was close to four million dollars. The city had estimated in the past that razing just the hospital, not including the medical buildings, would cost $3.5 million. The bid award tops the agenda for tonight’s regular council meeting at city hall. Although the demolition project is only expected to take a few months, the contract allows a year. City Administrator Jeff Rhodes said while there have been some preliminary inquires about the site, the city is not close making any decisions regarding the future use of the property..
