The city of Cumberland is expecting to sign a new three year contract in the coming days with the United Food and Commercial Worker Local 1994, the union representing the police officers. However, negotiations with the American Federation of State, County Municipal Employees, which represents city public works and clerical employees, are just getting underway. The contract will give the police officers a 2 percent raise with option to reopen wage negotiations in the second and third year of the contract based on economic conditions. The increase is a combination of a 1% COLA hike and a 1% stipend, or bonus. While the City Council approved the new contract during Tuesday’s meeting, City Solicitor Mike Cohen said a portion of the pay raise was inadvertently left out of the final contract, so an amendment will have to be approved in the near future…
