City Woman Escapes Police After Arrest

On 05/01/14 Officers from the Cumberland Police Department arrested 30 year old Elizabeth Martz of Cumberland on theft charges. The charges were as a result from Martz allegedly removing equipment from the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Martz was transported to the Cumberland Police Dept for processing and charging. Martz was then taken for an initial appearance at District Court where she was held on a $3000.00 bail. The Officer then placed Martz in the Police Cruiser for transport to the Allegany County Detention Center when she removed a handcuff from her wrist and opened the door to the police car. Martz was able to run from the area and after an extensive search utilizing a Cumberland Police K-9 Unit, she was unable to be located.

On 05/02/14 The Cumberland Police Dept Warrant Officer was able to locate Martz at a residence in the 300blk of Pulaski St where she was taken into custody while attempting to hide within a closet without incident. Martz was transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where she was served an arrest warrant for Escape. Martz was taken before the District Court Commissioner and was held without bail pending her next appearance at District Court. Martz was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center and released to staff.
