(Hagerstown, MD) – 04-04-2013….Investigation revealed vehicle 1, a 1992 ford passenger car, was traveling e/b I-70 e/o Rt 522. It appears that vehicle 1 struck the rear of a tractor-trailer / box truck type vehicle in the fast lane then veered across the center median into the w/b I-70 lanes. The tractor-trailer / box truck continued e/b without stopping. No further information was available for the tractor-trailer / box truck. The 1992 ford came to final rest on the w/b right shoulder of I-70.
Damage to the passenger side front end, hood, and windshield of the 1992 ford was consistent with striking the underside portion of a trailer or possibly a box truck. The driver of vehicle 1, Nicole A Ellington (34 yr old w/f from Waynesboro, Pa) was flown from the scene to Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore. The front seat passenger, Michael Anthony Bevelacqua (W/M/ 39) …address unk at this time…. was transported to Meritus Medical Center by ambulance.
Both occupants were transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries. The e/b and w/b lanes of I-70 were closed for approx. 30 minutes for the MSP helicopter. Investigation continues.
