Columbia Gas Rate Increase Draws Angry Crowd at Meeting

A small but vocal and sometimes angry crowd were on hand Thursday evening as the Maryland Public Service Commission conducted a  hearing on the request of Columbia Gas to increase rates. The hearing was held at the Ramada Inn and about 20 citizens were in attendance with 7 making comments.  The reason given for the request is creating or replacing pipeline infrastructure and maintenance.  If approved, typical residential rates could go up 15%. Much of the criticism centered on a lack of adequate notice about the hearing, as well as not enough information being provided by the Columbia Gas representatives on hand…
