Commissioner Looking To Recruit New Members For Maryland Rural Counties Coalition

Allegany County Commissioner Mike McKay spent yesterday with the Wicomico County Commissioners and today meets with Caroline County in an effort to drum up new members for the Maryland Rural Counties Coalition.  The Allegany County Commissioners and McKay in particular, have been one of the driving forces behind the coalition, which last year hired two lobbyists to represent the interests of rural counties in Annapolis. Among the group’s priorities has been to highlight concerns about the costs of state-mandated changes to storm water management and septic systems, and to prevent money set aside for cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay from being used to help balance the state’s budget. Ironically, and perhaps most disappointing to date has been the failure to get neighboring Garrett County to join.
