Commissioner McKay Says BOE Has Gone Too Far With Funding Requests

Allegany County Commissioner Mike McKay says the Board of Education has gone too far in requests for additional funding for FY 2014. The school board and the commissioners have had emotional and heated debates and strong disagreements in the past few years over funding- and this year, the county allocated the bare minimum allowed by state law. During a budget update at a Thursday public work session, Commissioner McKay said the county is working on a tight budget, having been hit with a number of reductions in state aide. He says a teacher in the system actually sent him an email critical of his family- an indication that this issue is getting out of hand…

    Of course he doesn’t care. His children have never attended public school.
