Commissioner Questions School Board Budget Process

The Allegany County Board of Education’s fund balance- and the board’s use of it to fill budget shortfalls in recent years- has been a hot topic of debate in  recent days. A former county administrator said last week that the school board was ill advised to utilize reserve funds for operational expenses. Superintendent Dr David Cox said that while its not an ideal scenario, in some cases there are no other alternatives.  Allegany County Commissioner Bill Valentine has closely followed the school board’s budget process’ during his six years in office.
