Commissioners Attending MACo Summer Conference

Allegany County Commissioners Mike McKay and Bill Valentine are in Ocean City this week participating in the annual summer conference of the Maryland Association of Counties. Nearly 20 continuing education sessions will be offered at the conference, featuring more than 80 speakers from the public and private sectors. The conference also hosts state agency briefings, organization meetings, and regional county meetings as well as Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) committee meetings. Several education sessions are approved for the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance course credit.  Highlights of the conference include the closing session address by the governor. Commissioner McKay has made no secret of his frustration with the fiscal approach taken by the state in recent years- with an apparently focus on shifting much of the state burden to local governments…
