Commissioners Dismiss Public Accusations

September 12th, 2011 by WCBC Radio

Despite a number of high profile disputes between the two elected boards- the Allegany County Commissioners deny that there are communication problems between the county and the Board of Education. The issue was raised by a citizen during last week’s special public hearing on funding for a new Allegany High School. Commissioners Mike McKay and Creade Brodie Jr said both sides had been “respectful” throughout the process. However, debates- often times heated-  between the commissioners and the board have been a regular occurance throughout the year. Those issues include a citizen generated plan to undo school consolidation;  the commission’s attempt to override a board decision to stop sending county students in Little Orleans to Washington County schools and most recently- a dispute over the funding process for a new high school. Commissioners Bill Valentine and Mike McKay dismissed accusations that the commissioners oppose funding a new high school.
