Commissioners Joint Session Scheduled with Board of Education

A month after voting to make the construction of a new Allegany High School at a new location its top capital  priority- the Board of Education will meet in a joint work session with the County Commissioners today to discuss funding the project. At the board’s July meeting a new Allegany was designated as the top priority followed in order by renovation and expansion to Washington Middle and renovation and expansion to Braddock Middle.  The school board needs support from the commissioners before seeking state funding for improvements- and school officials have emphasized that over the next three years, Allegany County can take advantage of a 93-7 percent funding formula, with the state paying 93 percent.
