Commissioners Propose Changes to Property Tax Credits

July 31st, 2015 by WCBC Radio

No one spoke in favor of, or in opposition to proposed changes in the tax credit available for homeowners facing increased property tax assessments. The Allegany County Commissioners conducted a public hearing on the plan during Thursday’s business meeting.  The proposal comes from  Commissioner Jake Shade, who said it will avoid problems of the past and help homeowners in the future. According to the finance department, the tax credit currently takes effect when an assessment increases by 7 percent. The commissioners want to reduce that to 4 percent. There are 411 households that receive the existing credit, and the change would increase the total to 627 households. Commissioner Creade Brodie Jr.
