Commissioners Take Comments On Mandated Sprinkler Systems

The Allegany County Commissioners heard comments both pro and con regarding the controversial soon to be state mandated sprinkler systems for new home construction. The Commissioners expect to opt out, however that only covers the next three years- and every county will be subject to the mandate during the next code cycle in 2015. Those hoping to put sprinklers off say that the cost can run anywhere from an additional $5,000 to $20,000 for having to install a sprinkler system in a new home.  Commissioner Creade Brodie said he is all for fire safety, but there are parts of the state plan that he strongly opposes…
