Commissioners Take First Step In Process To Demolish Former Allegany High School

The Allegany County Board of Commissioners announced last fall plans to seek $2 million in state funding for demolition of the former Allegany High School on Sedgwick Street- and this week a first step in that direction was approved by the commissioners.  The county hopes to demolish the former school and transfer the property over to a developer to construct single-family homes and community park facilities. During Thursday’s business meeting, the commissioners awarded a hazardous materials inspection Scope to a Rockville based company for a cost of $63,000 to address asbestos at the former school.
