Commissioners Threaten To Take Issue With School Board To Court

July 22nd, 2013 by WCBC Radio

The next executive session of the Allegany County Board of Education isn’t scheduled until the second week in August- and by that time the hope is that the school board and Allegany County Commissioners will have resolved their issues over the role of the ex-officio member. The commissioners want ex-officio member, Commissioner Bill Valentine to have access to every board meeting- closed or otherwise. The school board has balked, saying that matters pertaining to student hearings, personnel and collective bargaining should not be a concern for a county commissioner- and he should not be permitted to sit in on those discussions.  The commissioners are threatening to take the issue to court. If the matter isn’t resolved in the near future, it could lead to a showdown in August if Valentine forces the issue and attempts to attend a session against the school board’s wishes.  Board member Mike Llewellyn says that it’s a possibility, but he hopes it doesn’t come to that…
