Commissioners To Discuss Possible Personnel Reductions

It’s been a difficult week for many Allegany County employees- after learning last Thursday that its likely jobs will be lost during the current budget process. County Administrator David Eberly told the Commissioners a week ago that he doesn’t think the county will be able to avoid eliminating jobs as they begin the painful process of balancing a budget for fiscal year 2013. Based on the state’s so-called “doomsday” budget- the county is looking at some $3.1 million in cuts. Declining revenues — down around $882,000 — and increased funding requests — up by around $1.2 million — are also part of the problem. Finance director Jason Bennett said that in addition, the state’s budget means a loss of around $730,000 for Allegany County because of a 10 percent cut to the disparity grant. Today the commissioners will meet in a closed session to discuss possible personnel reductions- and that will be followed by a public budget work shop where Bennett says he and Eberly will present several fiscal options for the commissioners consideration…
