Commissioners Vote To Hire Lobbyist

The Allegany County Commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to spend up to $5,000 to contribute to the hire of a lobbyist to represent western Maryland in Annapolis during the General Assembly. The other counties in addition to Allegany will be Washington, Carroll and Frederick. Garrett County was invited to participate but opted not too- although the state’s western most county could benefit anyway as the issues to be dealt with by the lobbyist will be regional in nature. Just one citizen addressed the issue.  Patricia Sweitzer of Flintstone said that she believes the move is unnecessary considering the county has representation on the county, state and federal level by way of elected officials. She said paying a professional firm with tax payer’s dollars to advocate for local issues is a waste of money…
