Commissioners Vote To Purchase Solar Power

The Allegany County Commissioners voted to enter into an agreement to purchase solar power generated from panels on county-owned property- a deal that could provide a financial windfall for the county in the future. The county and contractors have selected two sites for the solar power generation systems and county officials said the agreement calls for the plants to be operational no later than the end of 2016. The contractors, Urban Grid Holdings, LLC of Stevensville and their partner, Global Resource Options, Inc., of Vermont, will benefit from the purchase agreement and a payment in lieu of taxes agreement with the county. Jeff Barclay, a county economic development specialist, said the solar arrays will be built at the Darrow's Lane Pumping Station and adjacent to the Public Safety Building on Pittsburgh Plate Glass Road.
