Commissioners Vote to Sell Machine Gun at Auction

The Allegany County Commissioners voted recently to declare a Thompson Model 1921 Machine Gun as surplus in order to allow it to be auctioned off for the benefit of the sheriff’s department. The collectible weapon, to be sold by a bid outlined by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, US Department of Justice, has been stored in a safe with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department for decades. Sheriff Craig Robertson, admitted that he has mixed emotions seeing the gun scheduled for auction- saying that  while the money is badly needed by the department, he hates to see such a piece of history lost to the county…
