Committee Report On School Security Revealed

No real surprises in the committee report on school security presented by Allegany County Sheriff Craig Robertson Monday afternoon. The committee was appointed by the County Commissioners in April shortly after the county rejected a school board drafted plan calling for the hire of off duty troopers to provide security. The committee met for two months and finalized its recommendations just last week. Although emphasizing that this is a work in progress and open to change, the plan- as outlined by the sheriff- would ideally have current, uniformed armed officers in the schools each day, who could double as DARE officers.  The sheriff also noted that this plan covers both the public and private schools in the county- and that law enforcement, not the board of education, should run the security program…
