Common Core Forum Tonight at FSU

November 14th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland State Department of Education and the Maryland PTA have been holding a series of Regional Information Sessions on the Common Core State Standards, providing an opportunity to meet and hear remarks from State Superintendent Lowery, PTA President Leone, and others.  Tonight a forum will be held for Allegany and Garrett County residents at Frostburg State University.  The audience will have a chance to submit questions in writing about the Standards. These sessions provide parents and the public-at-large an understanding of the Common Core initiative. These Standards establish a rigorous set of shared goals and expectations for what students should understand and be able to do in grades K-12 in order to be prepared for success in college and the workplace.  Dr Lowery says that the Common Core State Standards form the foundation for Maryland's new State curriculum frameworks, which are being implemented in all Maryland schools this school year.
