Community Asked For Support To Keep Postal Operations In Area

A local union representative has asked the Allegany County Commissioners to join in a community wide effort to halt the potential closing of postal operations in Cumberland. The postal service announced final plans to close the Cumberland sorting facility in late February; however a moratorium has been placed on all closures until May 15. Under the plan, Cumberland operations will move to the Johnstown (Pa.) Processing and Distribution Facility.  At the most recent meeting of the County Commissioners, Jack Davis, the president of AFSCME Local 1633, which represents Allegany County public employees, handed out a flier urging people to contact the offices of U.S. Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin to voice support for keeping the facility in Cumberland…
