Concept For River Park Presented To Authority

The concept for a river park developed by Robert Kauffman, a Frostburg State University professor, which includes a whitewater course, was presented to the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority during this week’s business meeting- and the initial reaction was overwhelmingly positive. Canal Place executive director Dee Dee Ritchie briefed the board on the plan that she says would see a terraced “staircase” created leading from the Blue Bridge dam to the Potomac River. The river would then have rock obstacles to create the whitewater course. It would consist of creating a man-made whitewater park on one side, and the other side a less stressful course for just regular canoers. The portion of the river above the dam would be left as is. Ritchie says the plan would seem to a major boost for economic development and tourism…
