At no time in its 9 year history has confidence been as low about the viability of Canal Place’s role in local economic development efforts than today. Just three years ago there was a major shakeup on the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority with changes to the board of directors and the hire of a new executive director. It seems as though those changes have not had the expected result with difficulties in attracting or retaining businesses continuing; the state questioning whether or not to maintain its level of commitment; and Director Renee Bone announcing plans to resign. Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim says he still believes in the project.
