Confidence Low About Viability Of Canal Place’s Role In Economic Development

At no time in its 9 year history has confidence been as low about the viability of Canal Place’s role in local economic development efforts than today. Just three years ago there was a major shakeup on the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority with changes to the board of directors and the hire of a new executive director. It seems as though those changes have not had the expected result with difficulties in attracting or retaining businesses continuing; the state questioning whether or not to maintain its level of commitment; and Director Renee Bone announcing plans to resign. Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim says he still believes in the project. Appearing on WCBC’ “Dave Norman Show” the mayor said he thinks there is a strong level of dedication to the project on the part of the Authority- however any number of obstacles have thrown up road blocks that have been difficult to overcome to date…
