For the fourth consecutive year, Cumberland residents will have to look elsewhere if they are interested in taking a dip in the pool this Memorial Day weekend. Diane Johnson, the city’s director of Parks and Recreation, confirmed to WCBC News that like last year- Constitution Park swimming pools opening date will be coordinated with the first day of summer vacation for kids- and not Memorial Day. There are several reasons for the decisions including a declining number of users in the most recent years when the pool was opened for the holiday- as well as a lack of manpower and cost-effectiveness in keeping the pool closed an additional week.
