The long-awaited bid day for proposals from construction companies interested in building the new Allegany High School is set for next Wednesday- finally giving the Board of Education a true indication of how much money will be needed for the project. Estimated to cost $42 million, the new school will be constructed on Haystack Mountain in the footprint of the former Sacred Heart Hospital. The demolition of the former hospital was completed in early July. The bids will give a better approximation of the actual cost of the new school and whether all the amenities, such as parking lots and sports fields, will be able to be included in the construction plans.
