Construction of New Sheetz Store Lagging Behind

February 13th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

It was in October of 2010 when plans were first announced by the Sheetz Corporation that Farley’s Foodland on Bedford Road would be closed- and a new Sheetz store opened in the summer of 2011. A number of delays- most of them state permit related- have significantly delayed the project- however after about a six week halt, work began again last Monday.  The store property has been leased to Sheetz.  The new store will replace the existing Frederick Street store, which will remain open until the new store is complete.  Steve Augustine, director of real estate for Sheetz, acknowledged that permitting issues has set the project back close to a year.

a gold mine awaits anyone who wishes to place a store on the Frederick Street location when it opens. There are people, like myself, who won’t go out of their way to Naves Crossroads but would patronize a store at the Sheetz location, which is convenient to a lot of us. Greene Street Sheetz, however, would get a lot of the old business but always seems backed up and one cash register open…they should be staffed with more people.
