Consultants An Asset When It Comes To Advocating For The County

On two separate occasions in recent years the Allegany County Commissioners have retained the services of a lobbyist to advocate for the county in Annapolis during the 90 day session of the Maryland General Assembly. Last year the county essentially used a consultant for that purpose as part of the recently formed Rural Maryland Coalition. While some lawmakers may view that as a slight, given that they are elected to push for the interests of the counties and municipalities they represent- Delegate Wendell Beitzel says quite the opposite is true. Beitzel told the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce that lawmakers are often bogged down with statewide issues and major concerns such as the budget- and can’t always stay on top of all of the local issues.
