Contract Talks In The Near Future Between ACTA And BOE

Contract talks between the Allegany County Teachers Association and the Board of Education will begin in the near future and given the continued tight fiscal times for the board- it remains to be scene as to whether any type of salary hike will be seriously considered. ACTA, to help alleviate some of the financial crunch that has faced the board if recent years- opted to take only half of a negotiated 2% hike last year. Even though that increase wasn’t implemented- approximately 400 teachers received a step increase costing the system $600,000. In total teachers and other board of education employees received a 1.3% increase. However, since 2010 the system has reduced a total of 106 positions which saw the overall payroll shrink by $3.5 million. Board member Mike Llewellyn says he believes the teachers union has been cooperative during the contract process in recent years- and he anticipates that cooperation to continue…
