The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, the Honorable Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Thursday, June 5, 2014, that Douglas Kiser, of Corriganville, was recently sentenced in connection with his March convictions for Theft having a value of $1,000 to under $10,000 and Malicious Destruction of Property following a trial. The Honorable W. Timothy Finan sentenced Kiser to three years in the Maryland Department of Corrections, suspending 18 months of the sentence. On April 1, 2013, members of the Corriganville Fire Department discovered what first appeared to have been a burglary which had occurred at the fire company’s hall. An investigation conducted by the C3I Unit and Maryland State Police revealed that Kiser, a member and trustee of the fire department, had stolen $5,000 in cash and gift cards from the safe room and had staged the scene to appear as a burglary. The investigation was greatly aided by the detailed record keeping and business practices maintained by the Corriganville Fire Department. Upon Kiser’s release, he will be placed on supervised probation for a period of two years and was ordered to remain off Corriganville Fire Department property.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Erich Bean of the Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office. Mr. Kiser was represented by Stephen Tully, Esq.
