Cost Of Police Body Camera Upkeep A Major Deterrent Says Sheriff

The use of police body cameras has increased in recent years- and it appears more and more law enforcement agencies in Maryland are following the trend.  In 2015, a governor appointed commission presented recommendations on the best practices for the use of body cameras by a law enforcement officer. Not widely used to date in Western Maryland, Allegany Sheriff Craig Robertson said a major deterrent is the cost. Not so much for the equipment, but for the ongoing cost associated with them. Those costs are for retaining the data as well as the personnel needed to review and redact the video and audio for release.  While not mandatory, the sheriff has concerns that lawmakers in Annapolis may eventually move in that direction…
