The cost providing full service, full time public safety is growing for the city of Cumberland- and it’s a chief concern going into the next fiscal year. Although there have been preliminary discussions over the years of going to a volunteer fire department; or having the police department consolidate with the county- to date, the city continues to maintain a full time professional police department and a full time professional fire department.
