Countdown Is On For Maryland’s New Gun Control Measure

The countdown is on for Maryland’s new gun control measure to go into effect- and although the governor’s initiative was approved by the general assembly- it wasn’t without much debate and controversy. Some of that debate was renewed during a Monday hearing to review the regulations that will become law.  The new regulations ban 45 different types of weapons, limit magazine clips to 10 rounds, and require gun buyers to submit fingerprints to the Maryland State Police. At the hearing, Delegate Mike Smigel, a Republican who represents the upper Eastern Shore, accused state police of adding regulations without lawmakers' consent.  Another point of contention is the somewhat convoluted process used to approve or reject applications for guns. Smigel says other states have electronic streamlined systems that perform the background check in a matter of seconds…
