County 2013 Budget Approved

The Allegany County Commissioners unanimously approved the fiscal year 2013 county operating and capital budgets, totaling more than $112 million. Commission President Michael McKay said that the county stayed the course on keeping expenditures under control and slightly reducing the tax levy rate by one tenth of a cent. Outside agencies requesting increases for fiscal 2013, will be funded at fiscal year 2012 levels. Perhaps most dramatically impacted was the Allegany County Board of Education. The board had been hoping to receive a slight budget increase after several years of requesting no new additional funds. McKay said that state is to blame for the fiscal crisis facing the local school system…
