County Board of Zoning Deals Blow to Dan’s Mountain Wind Project

In what is a major blow to an effort to develop a 17-turbine wind farm on Dan’s Mountain- the Allegany County Board of Zoning appeals adopted a formal opinion Monday on the denial of an application for variances and a special exception for the $110 million project.  The board voted to adopt the opinions and findings of fact for both Dans Mountain Windforce LLC's application for a special exception to construct the wind farm and its application for a variance to setback and separation distance requirements. While never taking an official position on the project, the Allegany County Commissioners were generally supportive. Commissioner Creade Brodie Jr was the most outspoken in his support, going so far as to mapping out a plan to utilize the potential revenue stream that would have been created. He says that while he respects the wishes of the property owners, its difficult to see another lost opportunity for economic development for the county…
