Getting homes and businesses to locate on the largest remaining tract of development-friendly land in the county has been a goal of Allegany County Commissioners- and a step in that direction was taken during last week’s public meeting. That land is what was to be the Cumberland Chase Planned Development on 1,100 acres near Rawlings. Those initial development plans fell through as the result of financial troubles for developers- and several subsequent plans to bring a new developer into the picture stalled because of the inability of the bank that owns the property and potential developers to get things moving. That has now changed with Allegany County executing a sales contract with Summit Community Bank of Moorefield to purchase approximately 266 acres of the former Cumberland Chase property at a rate of just over two thousand dollars per acre.
